Growing Up In Tyler
Mahomes was born in Tyler, Texas, in 1995. His father, Pat Mahomes Sr., was a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Mahomes Sr. taught his son the importance of hard work and dedication from a young age.
Mahomes began playing football at the age of six. He quickly showed a natural talent for the game. In high school, he was a star quarterback and led his team to a state championship.
College Career
After graduating from high school, Mahomes committed to Texas Tech University. He played three seasons for the Red Raiders, and in his final season, he threw for 5,052 yards and 53 touchdowns.
Mahomes' performance at Texas Tech caught the attention of the NFL. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
NFL Career
Mahomes started his NFL career as a backup to Alex Smith. But in Week 17 of the 2017 season, Smith suffered a season-ending injury. Mahomes was thrust into the starting role, and he quickly proved that he was ready for the challenge.
In his first season as a starter, Mahomes threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns. He led the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game, where they lost to the New England Patriots in overtime.
In 2018, Mahomes had another outstanding season. He threw for 5,316 yards and 50 touchdowns, and he led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes has continued to play at a high level in 2020 and 2021. He has led the Chiefs to two more AFC Championship games and another Super Bowl appearance. He has also won the NFL MVP award twice.
