The Second Italo-Ethiopian War, also known as the Abyssinia Crisis, was a conflict fought between Italy and Ethiopia from 1935 to 1937. The war was the culmination of a long period of tension between the two countries, as Italy sought to expand its colonial empire in Africa and Ethiopia sought to maintain its independence.

The war began on October 3, 1935, when Italian forces invaded Ethiopia from Eritrea and Italian Somaliland. The Ethiopians were poorly equipped and outmatched by the Italians, who had superior firepower and airpower. Despite their initial successes, the Italians faced stiff resistance from the Ethiopians, who fought a determined guerrilla war against the invaders.

The war dragged on for two years, and both sides suffered heavy losses. The Italians were eventually able to defeat the Ethiopians and occupy the country, but the victory came at a high cost. The war had cost Italy thousands of lives and billions of dollars, and it had also damaged Italy's reputation on the international stage.

In his book The True Story of an Italian War in Abyssinia, Italian journalist Indro Montanelli provides a gripping account of the Second Italo-Ethiopian War. Montanelli was a war correspondent who witnessed the conflict firsthand, and his book offers a unique and insightful perspective on one of the most controversial and important events in African history.

Montanelli's book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the Second Italo-Ethiopian War or in the history of colonialism in Africa. Montanelli's writing is clear and engaging, and he provides a wealth of detail about the war and its aftermath.
