Born in Cuba in 1968, Lazaro Valle grew up playing baseball in the streets. He was a natural talent, and by the time he was 16, he was playing for the Cuban national team. But in 1991, Valle defected to the United States, leaving behind his family and everything he knew. He spent the next few years playing in the minor leagues, until he finally made it to the Major Leagues in 1997. Valle played for six seasons in the Majors, but his career was cut short by injuries. After retiring from baseball, Valle returned to Cuba to be with his family.
